My first international interview …
I sat down with the lovely Evelyn Martinez in Viña del Mar, Chile at Mango’s Cafe and we talked about my latest book 33 Ways to Reboot Your Life and sipped smoothies and espressos.
Why did you write this book?
For ten years I’ve been bouncing around, studying, experimenting with what works to create a healthy and happy life.
I helped take a company public. I went to a training session for the freak show and learned how to swallow swords. I worked for eight months across from a psychic surgeon and shaman. I helped internationally launch a mobile tech company in partnership with the world’s second largest telecommunications company. I wrote a bunch of books. I modeled for a Russian fashion designer. I lived in a treehouse in India. I had a lot of fun. I considerably upped my “life force.”
In the end, I wanted to share freely of what I’ve learned along the way. I think we can all do that.
My way is not the way for anyone else. Everyone has to find their own ways.
My new book gives you a starting point. A set of experiments that you can try for yourself.
Just pick three that you are drawn to and try them for 30 days.
See if your life doesn’t start to get better. See if you don’t have more energy, more clarity, more purpose, more inspiration. More desire to give the world the absolute best that you have to give.
And when you get there, reach out your hand and bring some others along with you!
How did you end up in Chile?
I keep a running list of places I want to go when the opportunity opens up. Chile has long been on that list.
10 years ago, I lived in Brazil for some time and I fell in love with South America! The people, the culture, the celebration of life, the dancing. I wanted to experience more. Since then, I have made Ecuador my home base in South America and also visited Argentina and Venezuela.
I researched 14 other countries before deciding to come to Chile.
So far it’s been great. I’ve spent most of my time in Santiago, Valparaiso, and Viña del Mar, with a few side excursions to the mountains.
Next weekend, I am going to the Elqui Valley. I am really looking forward to that. It seems like a magical place.
What do you hope readers of your book get out of it?
I hope that they smash through the barriers in their heads that say they can’t have everything that they want. That for whatever reason they can’t create an absolutely incredible life for themselves.
Because they can.
If one has done it, anyone can do it.
Some people say, “How can you be happy when there is so much suffering in the world?”
Let me ask you a question. Think of the last homeless person that you saw on the street. If you could wave a magic wand and grant him his wishes, what would you want for him? What would you want for all the people that are suffering?
I would want them to have a fabulous life. To feel inspired. To give their best gifts. To create beautiful things. To contribute to making this world more incredible. To feel fulfilled. To be engaged in purpose. To share in love and wisdom.
The best thing we can give to anyone is to be a living example of what is possible.
To be a shining sun. To walk tall and proud in our own life. As we create our best possible life, we are like a magnetic force that draws others towards us. And even more good comes from it. More people start to benefit. If everyone took the step to live their best and highest possible life, we would be set.
All of the so-called problems that we see so clearly in the world would transform or cease to exist. Imagine if we could create anything we needed on demand with cheap ingredients that didn’t degrade the environment. Imagine if we could tap and utilize the unlimited and free energy that already exists all around us. Imagine if we shifted the trillion dollars we collective spent killing other people in 2012 (war) to feeding people instead and making the world better. These things are going to happen. Some of them are already in process. It’s only a matter of time. People are already working on it. You could be one of them. The possibilities that we sit on are incredible.
We will not get there by posting and tweeting and watching the Kardashians. We will get there by digging deep and finding this incredible and inexhaustible spark inside of us. It is not just in some. It is in all. It is our job to uncover it. To get out of the way. To embrace it. And give the world our best and highest.
For people that don’t have time to read your book, what are three things that you recommend they do to reboot?
If you are so busy that you seriously don’t have time to read my book, which can be read in a single weekend, here’s what I recommend for you:
- Buy a Blendtec blender and eat real food smoothie every day for 30 days. Takes about 5 minutes. You can find a few of my favorite recipes on my Web site.
- When you first wake up and right before you go to bed, write for 5 minutes a list of things that you are grateful for. Do this for 30 days. They can be big. They can be small. They can be the same things every day. Train your gratitude muscle. Write it down.
- Walk with a friend in nature. For 30 days in a row. If you say that you don’t have to time to read my book, then you’ll probably say you don’t have to time to walk in nature every day for 30 days. That is exactly why I am recommending this step for you. Because you need it the most. Stretch yourself. You are a creator. You have done so many things that you’ve put your mind to. So do this one too. I’m serious about doing it with a friend. Maybe you know someone else in the same state of busyness as you that needs this exact same prescription. Enlist their support. Hit the mountains/trails/river/forest/beach/neighborhood together.
Anything else that you would like to share?
Just a call to action to stop being afraid. There’s no need anymore. No need to be afraid that you will fail. That others will laugh at you. That you won’t get what you are going for.
Who cares? You are learning, giving, sharing, striving, creating, being.
You can not fail.
No one had to teach you to breathe this morning when you woke up.
No one has to teach you to live your best possible life either.
You just need to wash the windows.
Throw out all the ideas in your mind that aren’t yours and don’t serve you. Ideas from your parents and churches and governments and news and twitter feeds. You don’t need any of that.
You are a living, breathing miracle. A potent life force. Just breathe and listen. Start to trust.
Start to believe that you are not broken, but that you are brilliant.
That you are not hopeless, but that you inspire yourself every day.
Get clearer on what you wish to create with your remaining time here on earth. Get clearer on your gifts and start giving them right away.
Even if it is small. Even if it is for only one other person. Even if that person is yourself.

I’m happy that you’re headed to Elqui Valley! Its is one of the best place to look at the outward mystery — a great experience to compliment the time spent attuned in the other direction. Enjoy!! Un fuerte abrazo.
